Parenting Q + A

What is parenting?

In the general sense, parenting is the act of raising a child, but parenting is more than protecting your child until they can defend themselves. Parenting also supports your child’s development and shapes their cultural values.

Parenting isn’t easy, and you may find that one style of parenting doesn’t seem to work for all your children.

Dr. Z understands the stress of parenting and how hard it is to find the right tools and techniques that ensure your child grows up into a healthy adult who’s physically, emotionally, socially, and mentally stable.

One of Dr. Zeshan’s techniques to help parents improve their parenting skills is determining if their child is a dandelion or an orchid.

How do I know if my child is a dandelion or orchid?

Every child has their own unique personality, quirks, and needs. Some children, even those from the same family, may be more sensitive to environmental stressors than others.

Researchers are recognizing the sensitivity differences in children and classify children as dandelions or orchids.

Dandelion

A dandelion is a strong and resilient flower that thrives in most environments. Most children are like dandelions, hardy, and resilient, with the ability to adapt and thrive in new situations.

Orchid

Orchids are a type of flower that thrives in very specific environments. Children who are more sensitive and reactive to their situations are considered orchids. These children may be shy, hypersensitive, and have strong reactions to stress.

Like the flowers, children characterized as dandelions or orchids require different parenting styles to thrive.

What happens during a parenting counseling session?

The goal of your parenting session at Inside Out is to help you determine whether your child is a dandelion or orchid. Dr. Zeshan enables you to develop the parenting skills needed to support your child’s sensitivities so they can grow into healthy adults.

During your initial parenting session, Dr. Zeshan conducts a comprehensive evaluation that includes:

  • Your personal medical and family history
  • Family dynamics
  • Details about your child or children
  • Parenting concerns and struggles

He may also talk to your child and ask questions to determine if they’re a dandelion or an orchid.

How can parenting help my child and me?

Dr. Zeshan develops individualized parenting treatment plans based on your specific struggles and your child’s sensitivities and needs.

Parenting isn’t easy, and no single technique works for all children. To learn more about parenting at Inside Out and how it can help you and your child, call the office or schedule an appointment online today.
